Travel Information
Pratola Peligna is situated on a plateau (342m above sea level) and is surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery. It is famous for the annual religious festival of the Madonna della Libera held in May, with many other festival celebrations.
The coastal resort of Pescara is about 60km away and the Capital Rome is approximately 170km, both are accessible by train or bus. There are beautiful mountain villages like Roccacasale, Scanno or Cocullo (famous for its Snake Festival). The nearest biggest town is the beautiful and historic town of Sulmona – center of the Confetti Industry of sugared almonds and birthplace of Ovid.
Pratola Peligna is a very good starting point for excursions to the wonderful town of L’Aquila (Capital of the Abruzzo), but also for walks in the Gran-Sasso-Area, the Majella and the Abruzzo-National Park. In the winter there are a lot of possibilities for Langlauf or skiing, for example, at Campo di Giove, Roccaraso or on the Campo Imperatore.
The area is well served by an extensive and inexpensive public transport network and bus stops and rail station are approx 5-10 minutes walking distance from our rental houses. Pratola Peligna is near the exit of the A25 (Exit Sulmona-Pratola Peligna). You can travel very cheaply to and from Pescara, L’Aquila, Sulmona and Rome.
Small supermarkets, shops, pizza places, cafes, fresh pasta shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance of our houses. On Friday mornings there is a large Farmers Market with fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, cheese, clothes, jewellery etc.
